CANCUN TRAVEL

Cancún is a coastal city in the tourist destination called The Mexican Caribbean,  the state of Quintana Roo, on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. It is a popular vacation spot on the Caribbean coast.
Peak season in Cancun tends to run from December to April. Prices in both airfare and hotel increase dramatically during these times, while dropping in the summer and early autumn months. Late June is especially hot, so come prepared or try the off season. Hurricanes can be a major threat in late summer and autumn.

Resting on the northeast corner of the mexican Caribbean, Cancun itself was built on a site selected as the ideal spot for a new tourist development by the Mexican government. The state of Quintana Roo was still a territory and this area had few inhabitants when Cancun was built. It is comprised of fourteen miles of pristine white beaches shaped like a number  home to Mayan archaeological wonders, turquoise seas, a bountiful underwater world, and world-class vacation amenities. It is still considered the gateway to the Mayan World "El Mundo Maya". Mayan temples and ritual sites are everywhere, some smothered by lush jungle, others easily accessible. Good tourist attractions.

The Cancun hotel zone is almost entirely built around the tourist industry. It abounds with all-inclusive resort hotels. Stay here only if you don't mind spending your vacation with many other tourists.
Downtown Cancun, especially once you get away from the ADO bus station and nearby hostels and hotels, is a real Mexican city. There are many restaurants, shopping centers, markets and clubs in the downtown area that you can visit during your stay.

Cancun Mexico usually attracts mostly honeymooners that are seeking beaches and scuba diving, or who are a bit adventurous, can easily find rooms on equally beautiful and less crowded beaches along the coast just an hour or two south of Cancun for much less than the cost of major Cancun hotels. Some Spanish language skills may aid in finding better deals. You can rent a car, or take the bus to Puerto Morelos about 20 minutes or Tulum 1 hour. Playa del Carmen 45 minutes,  is between the two, but caters to the all-inclusive crowd. Taxis are also available.
Those looking for a base of operations who want good or luxury hotels and the advantages of urban life but prefer more local flavor may wish to stay in the Yucatan's main city of Mérida. Many international flights in to Cancun continue on after a stop to Mérida's international airport.

 CANCUN VACATIONS

Most of the Cancun all-inclusive resort hotels are concentrated in the Hotel Zone area and An all-inclusive resort provides all your drinks and meals combined in a package deal with airfare.
The Mayan Riviera of Mexico is close to Cancun extending just south of Cancun along the coast and also includes the resort areas of island of Cozumel accessible by ferry, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. You will find a variety of all-inclusive resorts at all of these locations and easy access to ancient ruin sites, abundant marine life and coral and, of course, tropical beaches.

CANCUN ALL INCLUSIVE HOTELS

There are about 150 hotels in Cancun Mexico with more than 24,000 rooms and 380 restaurants. Four million visitors arrive each year in an average of 190 flights daily. The Hotel Zone of Cancun is shaped like a 7 with bridges on each end connecting to the mainland. Hotels on the vertical or long side of the 7 tend to have rougher beaches and beach erosion can be a problem. Resorts on the horizontal or short end of the seven tend to have more gentle surf because the waves here are blocked by the island of Isla Mujeres which lies just off shore. The Hotel Zone offers a broad range of accommodations, ranging from relatively inexpensive motel-style facilities in the older section closest to the mainland, to high-priced luxury hotels in the later sections, great malls, theme parks and swimming with dolphins activity.

Cancun Travel Deals

CANCUN MEXICO

Carlos 'n Charlie's :The Cancun Hotel Strip or "Zona Hotelera Cancun"  is a vast swath of mainly Tex Mex-style places catering to the just-flew-in crowd. Prices are higher and quality is generally lower than what you'll find in Ciudad Cancún. A number of places cater to a young crowd, with conga lines where waiters cheer and pour watery tequila down dancers' throats as they weave by. So you'll either want to head for or away from Señor Frog's and Carlos 'n Charlie's for that kind of dining experience.

Lobster House :Try Carrillo's Plato Cozumel if you're looking for something a bit special. This somewhat formal restaurant has air-conditioning indoors and is fan-cooled outdoors, and entertainment is provided by mariachis. Follow the good smells leading to the blue building and you'll be in the right place.

House Checándole If you can only eat at one restaurant in Cancún, then you should eat here. It's a bit away from the city center, but well worth the extra effort. Dressed up with a palapa roof, Checándole specializes in chilango (Mexico City) cuisine. The menu del día (fixed three-course meal) is around $45 , great value. If it's offering pollo en mole poblano (chicken smothered in a handmade chocolate and chili sauce), you should definitely go for it.

Crab House Offers a lovely view of the lagoon that complements the seafood. The long menu includes many shrimp and fillet-of-fish dishes. Crab and lobster are priced by the

El Rincón Yucateco A reasonably priced Yucatecan place that's across from Hotel Cotty, serving a nice variety of favorites along with very weak 'American'-style coffee. Sopa de lima ('lime soup'; chicken soup with lime) is light.

El Tapatío Touristy but good - a popular choice for hostel-goers, who suck down the mammoth fruit and veggie juices, shakes and smoothies at any time of day.

Irori Enjoy the show as the chef slices and dices the night away at this Japanese-run restaurant serving sushi and many other Japanese favorites in an intimate and nicely decorated setting. There's even a kids' menu if you've got sushi-scoffing rugrats in tow.

La Barbacoa de la Tulum If you love tacos, head to this cheap cantina in the Plaza de Toros.

La Dolce Vita One of Cancún's fanciest Italian restaurants, it offers white wicker chairs and soft, romantic lighting, plus great lagoon views and attentive staff. Try the chicken with sun-dried tomatoes and finish with crêpes Suzette (for two). With a bottle of red, white or rosé this could be the start or the finish of a wonderful day.

La Habichuela An elegant restaurant with a lovely courtyard dining area, just off Parque Las Palapas. The specialty is shrimp and lobster in curry sauce served inside a coconut with tropical fruit.

CANCUN ENTERTAIMENT

CANCUN NIGHT LIFE & DANCE CLUBS

Picante  Set back from Avenida Tulum a few blocks north of Avenida Uxmal, this place isn't as 'spicy' as its name suggests, but it is a longtime neighborhood gay bar. It often features movies shown at high volume until about 01:00 , when the dance music comes on.

PicantePlaza de Toros  Built into the Plaza de Toros are several bars, some with music, that draw a largely local crowd.

Plaza de TorosRoots   Pretty much the hippest bar in Ciudad Cancún, Roots features jazz, reggae or rock bands and the occasional flamenco guitarist. It's also a pretty decent restaurant, serving pasta, salads, seafood and meat dishes. Thursday seems to be the best night for catching nice tunes with a crowd.

Roots Sabor Latino  On the 2nd floor of Chinatown Plaza, this is another happening club. Its live acts feature Dominican salsa, and other tropical styles.

Backstage Theater-CabaretCancún It  is well known for its lively gay and lesbian scene (though there's more for gay men than women), meaning there's plenty to do most nights. Backstage Theater-Cabaret features drag shows, strippers (male and female), fashion shows and musicals. Terrific ambience, joyful crowd.

Bulldog Café Bills Itself as 'the home of rock and roll,' and features live bands and a jumbo Jacuzzi that's made to look a bit like a cenote but is really just a showcase for bikini-clad staff to splash around. Look for the giant bulldog sign outside and you'll know you've found the right place.general Hollywood movies are shown in English with Spanish subtitles; however, English-language children's movies are usually dubbed in Spanish. Ticket prices run about around $40 for children and adults.

Cinemark Coco Bongo  This is often the venue for MTV's coverage of spring break, and tends to be a happening venue just about any day of the week. The club opens with celebrity impersonators, dancers and circus acts (clowns, acrobats and the like) for an hour or so then it really hots up with live music and dancing - on every surface, all night long.

Coco Bongo Dady   RockA steamy rock-and-roll club - it plays techno on occasion - it is next door to Dady'O and attracts a slightly older crowd than its neighbor. Admission is free until 22:00 .
